Yoga Quickie Episode #27
Building Strength and Longevity:
A 30-Minute Yoga Quickie
Introduction
Finding time for a full yoga session can be challenging. That’s why I’ve created the “quickie” yoga video series. Todays quickie is designed to help you build leg strength and increase longevity, all within a beautiful setting at the Vallarta Breeze Yoga Studio. Surrounded by wildlife and the serene ambiance of Puerto Vallarta, this session is perfect for rejuvenating both body and mind.
Warm-Up: Sun Stretches
We begin our practice with the 6 actions of the spine and some gentle Sun Stretches to awaken the body. These movements help to lubricate the joints, warm up the muscles, and prepare you for the deeper stretches to come. Remember to synchronize your breath with your movements, inhaling as you expand and exhaling as you contract.
Leg Strength and Longevity
Building strong legs is an essential part of maintaining overall health and longevity. Strong legs support your entire body, improve balance, and enhance mobility as you age. Remember, depth isn’t a measure of success; it’s the quality of your stretch and how you feel in each pose that truly matters. Listen to your body and work within your abilities.
Forward Folds and Pelvic Movement
It’s crucial to initiate all forward folds from the pelvis to protect your lower back. Tight hamstrings can restrict pelvic movement, causing strain in the lower back. Always prioritize a gentle and mindful approach to your stretches, ensuring that you engage the right muscles without overexerting yourself.
Ending with Pranayama: Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana)
We conclude our session with a brief practice of alternate nostril breathing, a pranayama technique that balances the nervous system and calms the mind. This simple yet powerful exercise helps to bring a sense of peace and clarity, preparing you for whatever lies ahead.
- Sit comfortably with a straight spine.
- Close your right nostril with your right thumb and inhale deeply through your left nostril.
- Close your left nostril with your right ring finger, release your right nostril, and exhale through the right.
- Inhale through the right nostril, close it, and exhale through the left.
- Continue this pattern for a few minutes, focusing on the rhythm of your breath.
Conclusion
Thanks for joining me in this 30-minute yoga quickie from the Vallarta Breeze Yoga Studio. By incorporating these poses and techniques into your practice, you can build leg strength, improve flexibility, and promote overall well-being. Remember, yoga is a journey, not a destination. Honor your body, breathe deeply, and enjoy the process.
