Teaching People, Not Just Poses

What Makes Vallarta Breeze Yoga Different

In the last 30 years of attending yoga classes around the world, I’ve noticed a common theme: most studios focus on presenting a class, not teaching one. Teachers often lead a flow with the intent to entertain or impress, demonstrating their own practice while students follow along. It’s a performance—engaging, yes, and often physically beneficial—but rarely educational. In these environments, teaching often doesn’t happen at all.

This style has its place. It’s fun, it’s social, and it offers general exercise. But if your goal is to learn yoga—how to embody the poses safely and effectively in your own body—you’ll need something more.

A Different Philosophy

At Vallarta Breeze Yoga, we take a radically different approach. Here, class size isn’t dictated by fire regulations—it’s determined by how many people I can actually teach at one time. Overcrowded classes aren’t a badge of success; they’re a sign that individual progress has been deprioritized.

I’ve seen students—new and experienced alike—struggle through entire classes without meaningful guidance. They leave having practiced unhealthy versions of poses, reinforcing ineffective movement patterns, and feeling discouraged. Some even quit, believing they’re just “not good at yoga.” That’s heartbreaking. Because often, the issue isn’t the student—it’s the teaching model.

Personalized, Purposeful Instruction

In our group classes, I’m engaged with every person in the room. I analyze alignment, correct movement patterns, and pause class to workshop poses that challenge the group. My goal isn’t to deliver a dazzling performance or the most complex sequence I can dream up. My goal is for every student to leave class having learned something new or deepened their understanding of yoga in their body.

This isn’t typical. But it’s incredibly effective.

Whole-Person Wellness

One student recently told me how unique our studio is in fostering whole-person wellness. That’s exactly right. As a certified Nutrition Coach, Personal Trainer, and Corrective Exercise Specialist, I integrate a wide range of knowledge into our classes:

  • Injury prevention through strengthening specific ranges of motion
  • Nutrition insights to support physical practice and prevent age-related decline
  • Muscle activation strategies for optimal alignment and joint safety
  • Nervous system education to improve breath, movement, and recovery

These conversations happen organically in our group classes, creating a learning environment that goes far beyond yoga poses.

Private Sessions for Deeper Progress

We also offer private yoga and personal training sessions with the same whole-person approach —ideal for beginners, those recovering from injury, or anyone wanting focused, one-on-one support. These sessions allow us to address poor movement patterns, joint instability, or simply provide a personalized experience tailored to your goals.

Choose the Studio That Serves You

Not all studios are the same. Some prioritize being vibrant social hubs with exciting flows you may never master. Others, like Vallarta Breeze Yoga, are centers for learning and transformation—filled with like-minded individuals taking charge of their health and wellbeing.

There’s no wrong choice. But knowing the difference can mean the difference between years of following along and years of empowered, integrated wellness.
